PISTON TEMPERATURE MEASUREMENT



The strategy deployed for this activity required a ‘non-contact’ method of transmitting the temperature readings from the piston to a data logging device whilst the engine would be running across its full range of speed and load. This activity was conducted in collaboration with MANNER Sensortelemetrie GmbH to ensure the integration of the instrumentation with the crank train assembly was correct and the reading of the signals was robust.
Data collected from this activity provided valuable information on the temperature profile of the piston, allowing engineers to optimise the profile of the crown, ring grooves, skirt and pin bosses on production piston designs.
PISTON TEMPERATURE MEASUREMENT
We have supported a previous client in the meticulous design of a bespoke piston for advanced combustion engine development where their requirement was to record operating temperatures at specific locations on the piston.
