Dual-runner intake system

We have supported in the development of a dual-runner intake system for a high-performance power unit, exploring the optimal airflow for peak combustion engine performance.

This system provided opportunities in a reduced complexity and weight compared to the incumbent variable-length intake system.

The more well-known application for this technology can be seen on the Yamah R1 and the Mazda 787B Le Mans race winning car, which both implemented a similar technology using slightly different strategies, the R1 opting for a ‘two position’ trumpet arrangement, whereas the 787B used a ‘continuously variable’ trumpet design.

The resultant benefit to this technology is an increased range of torque from the engine and improved combustion efficiency.
