OUR HERITAGE
The earliest record of the family of our founder, Martin Jones, venturing into the business of transport; his Great Great Grandfather starting a haulage business in the town of Carmarthen. Benjamin Jones used the ‘technology’ of the day which was a horse and cart for transporting solid fuels such as coal and lumber to customers.
The son, Benjamin Thomas Jones, continues the business in his fathers' footsteps, providing haulage services to the local community under the name of ‘B.T. Jones Haulage’. The B.T. Jones Haulage business advances with the procurement of a Morris Commercial C-Type Flat-Bed truck, diversifying into the transport of farm produce such as milk, hay and livestock.
Engineering becomes a part of the business with the expansion into Civil Engineering works, including the construction of the temporary roadways for the Royal Welsh Show in the 1960’s. Benjamin Thomas passes away, leaving the business to his son, Graham Jones, when coal is the dominant fuel for consumers and heavy industry, which is where Graham focuses his efforts of the business on.
B.T. Jones is well established as a haulier for a variety of materials in South West Wales with a fleet of vehicles and drivers supporting the business. In Graham’s entrepreneurial wisdom, he sealed the deal as sole agency for ‘Wolf Tools’ in Carmarthenshire and moved the business into ground maintenance for the summer months when solid fuels was in less demand.
Graham branches the business out into transporting animal feed under the trade name ‘IRONRAILS’, with a dedicated fleet of trucks painted in an alternative colour scheme to the B.T. Jones blue which had become so well known. John Jones inherits the business from his now deceased father; Graham Jones, in a challenging time when the Miners’ Strike was in action, causing drastic shortages of fuel and family hardship.
B.T. Jones clinches a 3 year deal with British Coal to continue delivering coal across South Wales, allowing the business to expand its fleet. Graham’s youngest son, Richard, having been part of the B.T. Jones enterprise throughout his younger working life, continues the family in providing haulage services to civil engineering projects and private individuals.
The youngest son of John Jones, Martin, establishes Mentum Limited after 10 years of working on a range of supercar and motorsport projects including Rallying, Autocross, Motocross and GT Endurance Racing projects.
Mentum expands as a consultancy, working on a breadth of engineering projects in the automotive and supercar industry.
